What’s Scarier Than the Sex Talk?

The basics of sex have stayed the same over the years, like the penis still goes in the vagina (well most of the time). But, a lot of the particulars have changed: how sex is viewed by society, who’s having it, and who’s finishing. According to the CDC, the number of high schoolers having sex has been decreasing, from 54% in 1991 to 46% today. Not a significant decrease, but enough to see that some kids really are scared shitless by those sex-ed talks. Or they just have acne and braces like so many of us did.
Surprisingly, we’re 19% less likely to have sex with someone on the first date than in 2006. The 3-date rule has only gained popularity. 69% of people used to “heck yeah” to sex on a first date (maybe not that exact phrasing), while now only 50% do. That’s still a 50/50 chance though!

Female orgasms are increasing! According to studies by the Archives of Sexual Behavior, male orgasms have stayed at a steady rate of approximately 95%, while women’s have increased from 65% in 2010 to 89% now. I think I speak for all women when I say ‘Woohoo’!

Unsurprisingly, fuck buddies are 10% more popular than they were in 2006 with 61% of people being open to a strictly sexual relationship. BDSM used to be considered taboo, but has gained increasing popularity since the 90s. In 2017, a survey by OkCupid showed that 75% of men and 62% of women now enjoy rough sex. More specifically, 64% of men and 51% of women liked using bondage. In case you’re in the other 40ish percent who haven’t tried it, here’s a link to some handcuffs.

How Sex Habits Of Young Adults Have Changed In The Past 20 Years

It really shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, but many of our attitudes toward sex have drastically changed over the years. While there are still several sex acts many aren’t too comfortable discussing, according to a new study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, heterosexual teens and young adults today are significantly more open to sexual experimentation than they were 20 years ago.

Anal Adventures

Young people today are much more open to trying new things sexually. In fact, the number of young adults who’ve had anal sex has more than doubled in the past two decades.

A decline in vaginal intercourse

Since more are trying anal sex than ever before, the number of people who’ve done all three has increased, too. Athough there was a decline in vaginal intercourse, researchers say oral and anal aren’t “replacing” it in any way. Instead, the two are “joining” it as something heterosexual couples just happen to do during sex now.
